Anti-abortus groeperingen als Operation Rescue in de VS (mede gesteund door de Rooms Katholieke kerk) claimen dat er een link bestaat tussen abortus en een verhoging van het risico op borstkanker. Uitgebreid onderzoek heeft echter al lang aangetoond dat dit verband tussen abortus en borstkanker niet bestaat.
Blijkbaar willen deze groeperingen vrouwen weerhouden van abortus door ze te wijzen op een verhoogd risico op borstkanker. Gelukkig heeft hun actie tot nu toe weinig resultaat opgeleverd.
Behalve deze onjuiste berichtgeving ten aanzien van abortus en borstkanker, vallen ze ook de grootste particuliere non-profit organisatie in de strijd tegen borstkanker aan, de ‘Susan G. Komen for the cure’ die ze een bedreiging voor de vrouw noemen.
De onderzoeken naar de relatie tussen abortus/miskraam en borstkanker staan vermeldt op de Komen.org website. Zowel het Amerikaans Kanker Instituut als de Amerikaanse organisatie van gynaecologen hebben verklaard dat er geen bewijs is van enig verband tussen abortus en borstkanker.
